As the Man & Woman of the Year 2004 officially begins, I am happy to announce I broke my first 100 miles yesterday on a run between Warrenton and Charlottesville, VA. Training is going very well. I spoke with Charlie Luessenhop today and he tells me he FINALLY got on a bike and rode 25 miles on Sunday as well...and yes was going to ride another 50 tonite. Good thing as he will be on perhaps the toughest week of the journey between Santa Monica and Flagstaff. Joe Muldoon says he will begin training soon!
I have been training on the steepest hills I can find as of late, in the Shenandoah Valley, Skyline Drive and Poolesville MD area around Sugarloaf mountain. My weight started at 265 lbs. in January, I am now a leaner 235 lbs....maintaining the amount of calories needed has been a challenge!
I am very much looking forward to this new adventure I am about to embark on. I hope you will follow my training progress in the days leading up to my final take-off from the Santa Monica Pier on Friday, April 16. Check in with this journal on a daily basis between April 16 and May 16 and experience this adventure with me. If you are reading this from an area I will be cyclig through, please feel free to join up with me for a few miles! Just send me an email to coordinate with us on location. Words of encouragement are always appreciated and your pledge to the campaign invaluable.
